Love, Lizzo

Doug Pray's 2022 documentary covers the singer Lizzo's rise across many years. Her beginnings in Houston, the Minneapolis years and the recognition that followed come in turn. The argument is that the rise was not sudden. The years of records that did not sell and of rejection are described; the narrative also takes up the relationship between body and music, while staying closed to criticism. The archive is wide. Lizzo speaks for herself. The production was supported from within the artist's own circle. Who it's for: viewers of popular music portraits. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a detached view; the documentary also serves as promotion.
