Surfwise

Dorian Paskowitz was a doctor who had trained in medicine at Stanford. At forty-five he gave up the profession, moved into a small camper with his wife and nine children, and spent his life surfing. The children did not go to school. What they ate, when they slept, the order of their days all ran by the rule their father set. Doug Pray's documentary brings the family back together years later and lets both sides speak. The father defends the life he chose; some of the children describe what it cost to grow up without a diploma, without money and without a choice. The film does not decide who was right. That the family left a mark on surfing it does not dispute.
