Lucky Jo

Jo and his three friends are inept criminals trying to live off small burglaries. But Jo has a peculiar gift: he brings bad luck to anyone near him, and on every job something unforeseen happens and one of them gets caught. While Jo is in prison yet again, the other three decide to work without him from now on; Jo tries to help them in secret, and the result is predictable. Michel Deville wrote the film with Nina Companeez, and Georges Delerue wrote the music. Eddie Constantine, then known for hard-boiled detective roles, takes the lead and spends most of it sending himself up. Designed as a small gangster picture, it turned into a bittersweet crime comedy and has kept that lightness ever since.
