Macross Frontier: The False Songstress

The story takes place aboard a colony fleet travelling through space. The famous singer Sheryl Nome arrives to give a concert; before long she is accused of spying for a rival fleet and matters inside the administration get tangled. At the same time two young people, Alto, who wants to fly, and Ranka, who wants to sing, are looking for their own paths. As the war with the creatures called the Vajra approaches, the three lives cross. The film retells part of the 2008 Macross Frontier television series and adds new scenes on top of it, so it is neither a straight summary nor an entirely new story. The Macross mould, running since the eighties, is intact: transforming fighter aircraft, a love triangle and singing in the middle of a battle. Shoji Kawamori created the series and directed this film himself. The most striking thing about it is that the concert scenes and the aerial combat run through the same edit.
