Revival of Evangelion

This is not a remake but a consolidation. The Evangelion films went out in pieces in 1997 and audiences could not tell which version was final. Revival of Evangelion, released on 8 March 1998, closed the confusion: Death(true)2 first, then a four minute intermission, then The End of Evangelion. Death(true)2 is the third and last edit of the recap that compresses the first twenty four episodes, with several plot critical shots restored after being cut from the previous version. The second half is the answer to how the series ended on television, showing directly what human instrumentality means. It is now treated as the definitive form of the Evangelion features. Its flaw is that the first half is entirely closed to anyone who has not seen the series, functioning as a fast cut reminder. The second half is heavy with violence and psychological collapse, and some sequences are deliberately unbearable. Who it is for: viewers who have watched Evangelion.
