Mass Appeal

In a Catholic parish an older pastor has long since built his own order. His relations with the congregation are easy and he troubles nobody. A young seminarian arriving there shakes that order. The young man is plain spoken and will not compromise. The tension between them becomes a matter both personal and institutional. The film tells the argument inside the church through the gap between two generations. Whether an institution can be changed from inside it is the real question. The work is adapted from a stage play. Jack Lemmon and Željko Ivanek appear in Glenn Jordan’s ninety nine minute American film, completed in 1984.
