What McQueen Is About
Lee Alexander McQueen grew up in East London, the son of a taxi driver, went from tailoring apprentice on Savile Row to running Givenchy at twenty-seven. The documentary treats the shows as performances rather than catwalks: robots spraying paint across a dress, rooms of glass, staging built to unsettle the audience. Isabella Blow finding him and pushing him forward, and what happened between them, is the emotional spine. McQueen took his own life in 2010, shortly after his mother died, and the film does not hide from it.
