In 1979 and 1980 the metalworkers of the ABC region of São Paulo went out on a series of strikes; the movement changed the face of trade unionism in Brazil, laid the ground for the founding of the Workers’ Party and carried the union president Luís Inácio Lula da Silva into the centre of national politics. The documentary talks to twenty one workers who took part in those strikes and whose names are unknown today; they describe where they came from, how they joined the movement and where their lives went afterwards, and they bring out the mementos they have kept. Eduardo Coutinho’s eighty five minute film was shot in 2002, while Lula’s presidential campaign was under way, and opened on 24 November 2004.
