What Mission Blue Is About
Sylvia Earle is an oceanographer who has spent her life underwater. In the seventies she led a team that lived on the sea floor for two weeks, and she became the first woman to serve as chief scientist of America's ocean agency. Alongside her story the documentary tells one of loss: it dives the same coral reefs forty years apart and shows what is left. Overfishing, pollution, acidification. What Earle wants is one thing: protected areas at sea, the way there are national parks on land. Robert Nixon and Fisher Stevens directed it together. Ninety-four minutes. It won an Emmy for editing in 2015. James Cameron is among those who speak.
