Mon Laferte, I Love You

Camila Grandi's 2024 documentary follows the Chilean singer Mon Laferte through a period in which a world tour and a pregnancy overlap. The camera is backstage, in hotel rooms and in the studio; the account does not run chronologically but is built around the breaks the singer herself describes. The documentary is honest in not covering the gap between assurance on stage and fragility in private life: Laferte speaks directly about the poverty, abuse and migration of her youth. The political position she took during the 2019 protests in Chile also enters the account. Its limit is that this is a portrait under the artist's own control, with no outside voice at all; do not expect musical analysis. Who it's for: viewers who love Latin American music and portraits of artists. Who it's not for: anyone wanting critical distance, or avoiding content about abuse and mental health.
