What Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery Is About
The documentary goes after the origins of Bitcoin and the pseudonym behind it, Satoshi Nakamoto. Cullen Hoback spends three years travelling with figures from Bitcoin's early years, comparing forum archives, timestamps and traces in the code. At the end of it he arrives at a name: the Canadian developer Peter Todd. Todd rejected it outright. He said he is not Satoshi, called the film irresponsible, said it put him in danger and that nobody asked him before it aired. Others who were there in Bitcoin's first years did not find the claim convincing either. What the film mostly rests on is a forum post from 2010. So what is on the table is a contested argument rather than a settled conclusion.
