What Monster Camp Is About

The documentary follows a group who play live action role playing games. Those taking part gather at weekends and become someone else. They dress up, fight by rules and live inside a story. That world has relationships of its own; attachments form between characters. Arguments break out in the same way and some friendships are lost. A character who is killed does not come back. But keeping all of it going takes real work in the real world. Unless someone takes charge, the whole thing falls apart. The film also shows that work and who carries it. Cullen Hoback’s American documentary, eighty one minutes long, was completed in 2007.
