Mr. Kaplan

Jacob Kaplan lives an ordinary life in Uruguay. Like many of his Jewish friends he fled Europe for South America because of the Second World War. Now turning seventy-six, he is bad-tempered and wants his life to mean something. Then he sees a quiet elderly German and becomes convinced the man is a Nazi in hiding. Jacob remembers that Eichmann was caught in South America years before and decides to take this man himself. He brings a former policeman along. Álvaro Brechner's film uses the shape of a comedy, but there is a serious matter under it: a person's effort to make his life mean something, and whether the past is really closed. The telling never takes the Holocaust lightly. Héctor Noguera plays Kaplan.
