Nancy Drew… Detective

When a wealthy elderly woman who has just made a large donation to her old school disappears, Nancy Drew goes after the case. Her father is a lawyer and she works the file like an adult, dragging her friend Ted Nickerson along with her whether he likes it or not. William Clemens directed this sixty-six-minute Warner Bros picture, adapted from The Password to Larkspur Lane, written by Mildred Wirt Benson under the pen name Carolyn Keene. The Nancy played by Bonita Granville talks faster and answers back more than the composed girl of the books, which is how the films came by a tone of their own. It opened on 19 November 1938. Warner Bros made four films with the same team before deciding to give up B-picture series altogether, and the run ended there.
