What New Battles Without Honor and Humanity 3: Last Days of the Boss Is About
The film is about the men of a small gang crushed beneath a larger organisation. Those above give the orders and those below bleed in vain in the gang wars. Neither the loyalty of these men nor their deaths is answered by anything. It belongs to a continuing series and comes from the vein of work by the same director and the same lead actor. The account does not present the yakuza as an order of honour; it shows what a hierarchy does to the man at the bottom. Violence here is not a spectacle but the result of a system doing what it does. Bunta Sugawara and Chieko Matsubara appear in Kinji Fukasaku’s ninety one minute Japanese film, completed in 1976.
