Samira Wiley P Peter Fison What Night on Earth: Shot in the Dark Is About
The documentary shows what went on behind the camera on a nature series filmed at night. The conditions the crews in different parts of the world climbed, dived and froze in are set out one by one; the real matter is what taking an image in darkness means technically. The film does not busy itself with praising the series; it says how it was made. The account follows not the animals but the people recording them, and shows that waiting is the greater part of the work. That the unsuccessful nights are recorded too gives the true proportion of the job. Samira Wiley narrates Alex Minton’s fifty nine minute documentary, completed in 2020.
