What Niki and Flo Is About
Niki, a colonel in reserve, has just lost his son in an accident; his daughter is married to the son of Flo, the neighbour across the road. Flo, a leftover bohemian from the seventies who never puts his camcorder down and is always full of schemes for the new Romania, is a man Niki cannot bear. As the young couple prepare to emigrate to America, the two of them are thrown together more and more. Lucian Pintilie had the script written by Cristi Puiu and Răzvan Rădulescu, who went on to make The Death of Mr Lăzărescu. Victor Rebengiuc plays Niki and Răzvan Vasilescu Flo. It showed in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in 2003, and the comedy keeps getting darker.
