What Too Late Is About
In post communist Romania the young prosecutor Dumitru Costa is sent to investigate the suspicious death of a miner in the Jiu Valley. The further he goes into it, the more he meets not a single death but a web in which negligence and corruption are tangled together. Seeking justice brings him up against powerful interests in the region and his resolve is tested. The film tells how institutions work in a country in transition and who is protecting whom. The darkness of the mine is used in the account as a condition as much as a place. Razvan Vasilescu plays the lead in Lucian Pintilie’s hundred and six minute Romanian film, completed in 1996.
