What No Place to Hide: The Rehtaeh Parsons Story Is About
Rehtaeh Parsons was fifteen when she went to a party where she was sexually assaulted, and she had no memory of it. Photographs of the assault spread through social media. What followed was humiliation and bullying, and less than two years later she took her own life. Her death was felt across Canada and around the world. The documentary moves through the accounts of her parents and of the people who knew her. Her family worked to hold to account the institutions that had failed to protect their daughter. A campaign carried on the internet and public pressure finally forced the case to be taken up again. The film is also about how images and networks enlarge an event. Rama Rau’s forty seven minute Canadian documentary was completed in 2015.
