Not Seen, Not Caught

On the second of April 1995 a television channel decided not to broadcast a documentary its own programme director had commissioned a few weeks earlier. The piece was to be shown in the channel’s segment on television, power and morality. The director Pierre Carles made a film about that act of censorship, and it was released in cinemas in 1998. According to the record the suppressed documentary had still not been shown on French television years later, and this film was not broadcast in France either, though it was shown on television in Belgium, Quebec and Switzerland. The account takes its own blocking as its subject and offers its own existence as the proof. Pierre Carles’s seventy eight minute French documentary was completed in 1998.
