Oh Olsun

Ertem Eğilmez's 1973 Turkish film is about a wealthy manufacturer trying to teach his three spoiled sons a lesson. Seeing that they have no idea how money is earned, he puts them to work as labourers in his own factory under concealed identities. None of the three can adjust; the weight of the work, the foreman's harshness and the hours are too much for them. One of the sons falls in love with a girl working there, and that forms the film's main line. The story treats class difference through comedy and stands with the workers, while tying its resolution to the good intentions of the rich father. It belongs to the strand of family comedies made by Arzu Film in the seventies and the cast is drawn from the well known performers of the day. The tone is light and the jokes aimed wide. Who it's for: viewers who like Yeşilçam comedy and family films of the period. Who it's not for: anyone expecting the social question to be taken further; the film ends in reconciliation.
