What Old Men: Robbers Is About
An old detective is being pushed into retirement and wants to prove to his superior that he can still do the job. The difficulty is that there is no crime to solve. So he and a retired friend decide to commit a perfect one themselves and then clear it up immediately. The plan is sound, the execution is peculiar, and the real disaster begins when an actual thief steals the money they stole. Eldar Ryazanov's Soviet comedy puts Yuri Nikulin opposite Yevgeny Yevstigneyev. It handles ageing and being treated as surplus in a light register without shrinking the subject, and as always with Ryazanov what is funny is also sad.
