What On the Road to Emmaus Is About
Rane comes back to the village he was born in after twenty years. The reason he comes is to sell the house of his childhood. Walking along the village road he meets old acquaintances. Among those he meets are his dead father and his grandmother. His grandmother tells him something about his father that could have turned his life another way. Along the road Rane has to face what he has become. The film moves almost in real time. The characters sometimes speak straight to the camera and sing old songs. Because of that the account does not settle into a usual shape. Puntti Valtonen and Peter Franzén take the leads in Markku Pölönen’s Finnish film of 2001.
