Celly O Osman Faruqi What ONEFOUR: Against All Odds Is About
A group of Pacific Islander youths from western Sydney begin recording drill tracks in order to stay clear of crime. Within two years they are known across the country and a tour is arranged with every ticket sold. But a unit set up inside the police stops the tour on the grounds that the group’s music will incite violence. The documentary follows both the young men’s own account and that reasoning; whether music can be counted as evidence of a crime stands at the centre of the film. The account takes a side and does not hide it, showing what those decisions did to the young men. Gabriel Gasparinatos’s eighty three minute Australian documentary was completed in 2023.
