Operation Wedding

Monty Tiwa's 2013 Indonesian film begins with a rule set by a military father. The youngest daughter wants to marry, but her father says it is her sisters' turn; so she devises a plan to get all three of them engaged. The humour comes from the plan not working. Each sister raises a different obstacle; the arranged meetings go wrong, and the narrative makes comic material of the hierarchy inside the family. The tone is light and the pace high. The narrative also makes room for what the sisters themselves want and moves towards a close that does not present marriage as the only solution. The cast is largely young. Who it's for: those who like Indonesian family comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting family pressure treated seriously; the film uses it purely as comedy.
