P.J.

P.J. Detweiler, a New York private eye doing the work without much enthusiasm, is hired by William Orbison, a millionaire with shady dealings; the job is to protect Maureen, the man’s mistress. In truth Orbison has set up a deadly arrangement and has cast the detective in a part inside it. As things tangle, P.J. tries both to save himself and not to fall in love with Maureen. The film speaks from within American crime cinema at the end of the sixties and deliberately keeps its hero tired and unclean. George Peppard and Raymond Burr appear in John Guillermin’s hundred and nine minute American film, completed in 1968.
