What Portland Street Blues Is About
In a triad world run by men, a woman known as Sister Thirteen works her way toward heading the Portland Street branch of the Hung Hing society. The road is not easy: she has to deal with rivals outside and with people inside who will not accept her. The film is the first official spin off from the Young and Dangerous series, directed by Raymond Yip. Sandra Ng is at the centre of it, and her part breaks the standard male hero mould of the series outright. Shu Qi and Kristy Yang are also in the cast. It is one of the few Hong Kong triad pictures that rebuilds its own conventions around a woman.
