What Presumed Guilty Is About
Antonio Zuniga was sentenced to twenty years in Mexico for a murder he knew nothing about. Two young lawyers, Roberto Hernandez and Layda Negrete, obtained a retrial and this time put a camera in the room. The record showed how the system actually works: no evidence, witnesses saying the opposite, and the judge returning the same verdict. He was released only on appeal, after more than eight hundred days inside. Two weeks after the film opened in Mexican cinemas a judge ordered it pulled from the screens.
