What Queercore: How to Punk a Revolution Is About
The documentary is about a cultural and social movement that came out of punk. It took shape as a circle standing against the social exclusion of gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender people, producing its own magazines, records and screenings with its own means. The film tells the beginning of the movement, how it grew through the circulation of zines and tapes, and the tense relation it kept with the punk scene. Among those who speak are musicians, writers and film directors, each giving their own period in their own words. The account does not present the movement as finished history; it leaves it as part of an argument still going on today. Yony Leyser’s eighty three minute documentary was completed in 2017.
