What Raining Stones Is About
Bob is out of work near Manchester. His daughter's first communion is coming and the dress the church expects costs more than he earns. Second-hand would do, and Bob will not have it: his girl will wear a new one. To get the money he steals a sheep, cleans drains, and finally goes to a loan shark, and when the debt arrives at the door his family is at risk too. Loach does not treat the stubbornness as stupidity. The title comes from a saying about the poor.
