Rapado

Lucio's motorcycle is stolen. After that the film watches him drift around Buenos Aires: arcades, record shops, buses, short conversations with friends, and mostly empty streets. At one point he shaves his head. He considers stealing another motorcycle. The narrative builds neither a revenge nor a quest; it only shows how a young man's days pass. Martín Rejtman's first feature counts as a turning point in Argentine cinema. The acting is deliberately flat, the dialogue short and unfeeling, and the editing cuts every moment that could produce emotion. That method became the model for the generation of the 1990s called New Argentine Cinema. Ezequiel Cavia plays Lucio. Who it's for: Viewers who like Argentine independent cinema, minimalist narrative, and films about a character drifting through a city. Who it's not for: Nothing happens and the film does not even make an issue of it. Connecting with the characters is also made deliberately difficult.
