What Razzia Is About
Razzia (full French title Razzia sur la chnouf) is directed by Henri Decoin, adapted from a novel by Auguste Le Breton, who also wrote Rififi; Jean Gabin plays a veteran gangster returning from America to reorganize the Paris drug trade. This was Lino Ventura's second film alongside Gabin, not his true screen debut, which came a year earlier with Touchez pas au grisbi; the pair would go on to form a twenty year friendship, appearing together in six films total. Who it's for: anyone curious about the early years of a former wrestler's screen career and the start of a twenty year friendship with Jean Gabin.
