What Strangers in the House Is About
Loursat, a lawyer, lives with his daughter Nicole in a vast and gloomy bourgeois house. His wife left him nearly twenty years ago, the brilliant advocate has sunk into drink, and he barely has a relationship with his daughter. Then the body of a stranger is found in the house. Nicole, who runs with a group of young people stealing cars out of boredom, is immediately suspected, and Loursat puts on his robes for the first time in years. Henri Decoin made it in 1942 from a Simenon novel, scripted by Henri-Georges Clouzot at the German controlled Continental. After the war it was accused of antisemitism over a character's name and altered by redubbing.
