What Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic Is About

Richard Pryor split American stand-up into a before and an after. On stage he said things about race, poverty, drugs and his own life that nobody else was saying. The documentary traces that influence without flinching from the life: growing up in a brothel, the marriages, the cocaine years, setting himself on fire while freebasing in 1980, and the multiple sclerosis diagnosed afterwards. Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Dave Chappelle and Richard Pryor Jr. speak. Marina Zenovich's film is trying to hold a balance between canonisation and wreckage, and it mostly holds it.
