What Water & Power: A California Heist Is About

The documentary looks into whose hands the water in California is in. What the film argues is this: public water is passing into the control of private companies through political and financial arrangements. In return some towns are left without access to safe drinking water. The work puts the Monterey Amendments of 1994 and control of the Kern Water Bank at its centre. It sets out how large landowners profited from that arrangement. The film speaks with farmers and with ordinary citizens. The land in question grows nearly half the fruit and vegetables of the country. Marina Zenovich’s American documentary, eighty seven minutes long, was completed in 2017 and shown at Sundance.
