Samaritan Zatoichi

Zatoichi is working for a yakuza boss. He is told to kill a young man behind on a debt, and he does it. Moments later the man's sister Osode arrives with the money to clear it, earned by selling herself. The debt is paid and the boss moves to take the girl anyway. That is when Zatoichi understands what he has done. He protects her from the gang, but both of them are in an impossible place: Osode has to shelter with her brother's killer, and he cannot look at her. Kenji Misumi directs; eighty-four minutes, with Shintarō Katsu as Zatoichi. It is the nineteenth film in the series. Most Zatoichi films end with the blind swordsman on the right side of things; this one starts him on the wrong side and keeps him there.
