The Confused Groom

Serpil lives comfortably on the money of her uncle, Süleyman Bey. To keep getting money out of him she behaves in front of him like a pious, modest girl from a good family. One day Süleyman Bey finds out the truth and lays down a condition: if she does not marry, she gets nothing from the inheritance. As a groom he settles on his own gardener, Apti. Apti is already in love with Serpil and accepts at once. Serpil sets about getting out of the marriage; on their honeymoon at Uludağ she meets someone and makes the tangle worse. Directed by Zeki Ökten, the film belongs to the years when Kemal Sunal was settling the simple-man type into place. Sunal is not stupid here, only honest; the comedy comes from that, because everyone around him is calculating. Adile Naşit and Ali Şen are in the cast. At seventy-eight minutes it is still among the most repeated films on television in Turkey.
