Savage X Fenty Show

Alex Rudzinski's 2019 production is a record of the show Rihanna staged for her lingerie brand. It abandons the conventional runway in favour of stage design, dance and live music, with Parris Goebel's choreography connecting the sections. The cast includes a range of body sizes, ages and gender identities, and the brand makes its claim openly: to set diversity against the single template lingerie promotion has followed for a long time. Short preparation sections are placed between the numbers, showing Rihanna's choices, rehearsal notes and last adjustments. Because these are kept brief the production stands as a promotional show rather than a documentary. The musical performances are its body. Who it's for: viewers who like fashion shows and musical performance. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a critical view; this is the brand's own account from beginning to end.
