What Shadow on the Wall Is About

Dell, whose fiancé was taken by her sister, kills the sister and lets the blame fall on her husband David, who was knocked out during an argument and ends up on death row. Then Dell learns that David’s small daughter Susan witnessed the killing and is in psychiatric treatment, and she sets about silencing the child before the memory comes back. Pat Jackson’s MGM thriller builds its dread entirely on the possibility of a child remembering. The psychiatrist working to recover that memory is played by Nancy Davis, later known as Nancy Reagan, and the only future American first lady to appear in a film noir.
