Shepard & Dark

Sam Shepard was a playwright and an actor. Johnny Dark was his old friend. The two of them wrote to each other for forty years. When the letters had piled up, the idea of a book came. The documentary follows that preparation. The two of them sort through the old letters. As they read, the past comes back. Some of the memories are good. Some are not at all. The conversations get stuck at times. Forty years do not summarise easily. What is between them is complicated. Their family lives are tangled together too. The film sits the two of them opposite each other. Jessica Lange also appears in the ninety two minute film, an American production Treva Wurmfeld finished in 2012.
