What Sideburns Is About

In a small provincial town two groups of young people are set against each other. On one side are those who live loosely and listen to punk. On the other stand narrow minded bodybuilders obsessed with order and sure of their own virtue. That settled balance is upset when two strangers arrive. The newcomers dress like Pushkin, the nineteenth century poet. On the face of it they found an organisation devoted to the memory of the great writer and to the salvation of Russia. In time they begin to take control of the town. The film tells how a nationalist movement gets built, and tells it as comedy. Viktor Sukhorukov and Artur Vakha appear in Yuri Mamin’s ninety four minute Soviet film, completed in 1990.
