Sing Geetham

Singeetam Srinivasa Rao's 2026 Telugu film follows Prathap, a young man seeking opportunity in a remote village. He is caught between his village's tradition and the gain arriving from outside, and only slowly grasps how much of what is presented as progress is deception. Music is used as the instrument of the narrative. The village's own sound tradition is set against commercial music brought in from elsewhere, and that opposition carries the film's argument. The director is one of the longest-working figures in Telugu cinema, with a career spanning more than sixty years. This late work returns to the village narratives of his beginnings. The cast is largely made up of new performers. Who it's for: those who like the classical strain of Telugu cinema and musical narrative. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a fast pace; the film is measured and instructive in tone.
