Kadhala Kadhala

Singeetam Srinivasa Rao's 1998 Tamil film follows two friends who share a name. Both are called Lingam; they get each other's affairs confused and the lies pile up in front of their girlfriends and families. The mechanism rests on the confusion of names. The narrative advances by speeding up its scenes; every explanation leads to a new misunderstanding and the comedy comes out of the pace. Kamal Haasan and Prabhu Deva lead, with Vadivelu carrying the comic line. The director is known for working across genres. The narrative claims no depth and is built entirely on jokes. Who it's for: those who like classic Tamil comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting consistent plotting; the film keeps bending its logic.
