Snow Chick - A Penguin's Tale

The documentary follows an emperor penguin chick in Antarctica. He is among the last of the colony to hatch. That leaves him smaller than the rest. He takes his first steps on the ice. He tries to join the other chicks. Being so small makes that hard. His parents go down to the sea in turn. Food means a long walk every time. Blizzards set the terms of life in the colony. The chick has to cope with the cold and with the crowd at once. The filming took most of a year, done by Frederique Olivier and Martin Passingham from a camp about a hundred kilometres inland, where the temperature fell to sixty degrees below zero. Kate Winslet narrates the fifty five minute documentary John Downer finished in 2015.
