Song of Lahore

The documentary is set in a city in Pakistan. Lahore was known for its music for many years. That held until the end of the nineteen seventies. Then a period of Islamization began in the country. Musical life was badly affected by it. Players could no longer find work. Many had to give up their trade. Some kept playing all the same. The documentary follows those musicians. Their instruments passed from father to son. They come together and try something new. They play jazz pieces on their own instruments. Their recording of Take Five is heard abroad. They are invited to the stage at Lincoln Center in New York. Najaf Ali and Rafiq Ahmed perform in the eighty two minute documentary. It is an American production two directors finished in 2015.
