Sore: A Wife from the Future

Jonathan, a photographer living in Croatia, wakes one morning to find a woman beside him. She introduces herself as his wife from the future and starts trying to change his habits: food, sleep, cigarettes. Her purpose is unclear until you understand what she is trying to prevent. The subject is not time travel but care arriving too late. Sore acts without explaining why she has come back, and the audience trails behind exactly as Jonathan does; the moment it becomes clear, the whole tone of the film changes. The form sits between romantic comedy and fantasy, built on Croatian landscape and ordinary domestic scenes. The science fiction is never explained and the film is not troubled by that. The source is Yandy Laurens' own 2017 web series, which he carried into a feature. Dion Wiyoko continued in the role of Jonathan from the series, while Sore was recast. It opened in Indonesia in July 2025, became one of the year's most-watched films and was submitted by the country for the international feature Oscar. It is also the first Indonesian feature shot in Croatia. Sheila Dara Aisha plays Sore. Who it is for: viewers who like emotional fantasy romance and love stories that take their time. Who it is not for: anyone wanting science fiction with defined rules; the film never opens up its mechanics.
