Stan Lee

The documentary tells Stan Lee's life almost entirely in his own voice; David Gelb assembled interview recordings made across many years and used Lee himself as the narrator. Starting as an assistant at Timely Comics, the war years, the moment he decided to leave comics and his wife telling him to write one for himself for once, open in order. What follows is Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. There is one area it deliberately keeps away from: the dispute over credit with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko is passed over quickly, and that became the common point of criticism. It is a Disney production and went out on Disney+. The archive material and the model reconstructions are used well. Who it is for: anyone curious about comics history and the founding of Marvel. Who it is not for: viewers expecting a balanced account of the argument over creators' rights.
