Man on the Run

When the Beatles broke up Paul McCartney was twenty-seven, among the most recognised musicians in the world, and did not know what to do. The documentary starts exactly there: retreating to the farm in Scotland, forming Wings with his wife Linda, playing small university halls with a band nobody took seriously, and winning the seventies back on his own. Morgan Neville worked with archive footage and recordings not seen before, with McCartney among the executive producers. Its best quality is refusing to end in triumph: the drug arrests, the critics' insults and the band falling apart all sit in the same line. It played in cinemas in February 2026 before going to Prime Video. Who it is for: viewers who like the post-Beatles period and music documentary. Who it is not for: anyone wanting critical distance, since the film stands close to its subject.
