What Stepping Out Is About
A stage performer whose Broadway days are long behind her teaches tap to a group of beginners in a church hall. The people who turn up have nothing in common: the old, the shy, the ones with trouble waiting at home, the ones with no business dancing at all. As the classes go on they hold onto each other and find out they can do more than they thought. Lewis Gilbert uses the classic shape of putting on a show, but dancing is not really the subject. Liza Minnelli plays the teacher, with Shelley Winters and Jane Krakowski.
