What Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives Is About
In the 1990s there was a hip hop show on a college radio station in New York that went out after midnight. Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito García presented it. The show had no money, no records and no respect for the rules. But names nobody had heard of yet got on a microphone there for the first time. Bobbito García's documentary tells the story of his own show. Names like Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Common and Lauryn Hill talk about those years. Most of the recordings come from tapes listeners made at home. The telling does not slip into nostalgia; its real subject is how two people with no resources at all opened the road for a culture.
